Earth's climate is changing rapidly, in some areas temperatures are escalating whilst in others there are intense downpours and storms. Research suggests climate changes may also exacerbate dangers beneath the earth's surface and may trigger earthquakes and volcanoes.
About the speaker
Dr Matthew Blackett is an Associate Professor at Coventry University in Physical Geography and Natural Hazards. His research career has focused on using remote sensing (mainly thermal) for the monitoring of Geo Hazards (mainly volcanoes and earthquakes, but also urban Islands and wild fires) via sensors found on NASA/ESA Satellites. Mathew has ambitious research plans, which consist of utilising, more widely, AI and other modelling techniques, in the monitoring (and potential prediction) of volcanic activity and wild fires. He hopes that such work will be useful for society and can help in the achievement of several of the UN's SDGs.
This event has been organised by the South West committee with The Royal Geological Society of Cornwall.
