About the session

Teaching A Level geography is both exciting and dynamic, offering teachers and students the ability to engage with topics and geographical concepts that allow us to think critically and question our place in the world. Creating teaching activities at A Level can often present challenges due to some of the complex subject knowledge that students are required to understand.

This session aims to share innovative ways that we can both teach and engage our A Level students in a variety of topics, mainly focusing on the core units of the Water and Carbon Cycles and Changing Places. In the session, Kate will share some of the resources and strategies that her department use, sharing practical advice on the challenges of teaching A Level as well as welcoming new ideas and sharing of resources. This session will particularly suit teachers new to teaching A Level.

About the speaker

Kate Otto has been a geography teacher since 2009 and has taught at a variety of 11-18 institutions, with her current role as a teacher of A Level geography at Barton Peveril College. Additionally, Kate is an examiner for the AQA exam board, author, PGCE subject mentor and contributor to the Tutor2u A Level geography programme. Kate Otto has been a CGeog since 2016, the same year she received the Society's Ordnance Survey Award for Excellence in Geographical Teaching at Secondary Level.
