House Manager: Premises and venue hire

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, professional, efficient and well organised individual with substantial experience in venue hire and in premises/facilities management, preferably in a listed building context.

The post is a permanent, full time post subject to successful completion of a probationary period of six months. The salary range for this post is £36,435 to £38,420 per annum depending on experience and qualifications. The post is based at the Society’s premises in Kensington, London.

Administrative Assistant

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and efficient administrative assistant for our Rediscovering London’s Geography Project in the Education Department.

The post is a 9 months fixed-term (January 2015-September 2015), 0.4 P/T position (2 days a week), subject to the successful completion of a two month probationary period. The job will be salaried up to £18,470 pro rata per annum, according to experience. The post is based in Kensington, London.

Professional Officer: Conference and Research Groups (maternity cover)

We are seeking a full-time, temporary (maternity cover) Professional Officer to organise the Society’s annual international conference, to support the Society’s 28 research groups, and to work with the Head of Research and Higher Education to disseminate information on the Society and geography to the geographical academic/research community.

The job will be salaried between £24,000 and £25,500 according to experience and qualifications. The appointment is expected to last until at least 30 November 2015 or until the existing post holder returns.

Academic Conference Assistant - 0.4 FTE: Fixed-term

We are seeking a part-time (0.4 FTE; 16 hours/week) conference assistant to support the organisation of the Society’s annual international conference for 2015. 

The conference event attracts 1500-2000 delegates each year; next year it will be held at the University of Exeter in early September 2015 (www.rgs.org/AC2015). The position is London based, and is fixed term, from 12 January 2015 to 30 September 2015. Pay is £9.50/hour.

Head of Public Engagement and Communications (Maternity cover)

We are seeking a full-time, temporary (maternity cover) Head of Public Engagement and Communications to be part of the Society’s Senior Management Team. We seek a colleague who has the right experience and skills at a level appropriate to the seniority of this position, an attitude that fits with the organisation’s ethos, plus a strong sense of enjoyment of geography and what it offers everyone.

The starting date for this post is mid February 2015 with a two month probationary period. It is a full time, temporary (maternity cover) post based in Kensington, London. The post is salaried at £60,000 per annum.

The Society offers a work experience programme for enthusiastic geographers, who are studying geography at university and also for geography ambassadors.

All placements are unpaid and based in London at the RGS-IBG. We do not pay expenses or provide accommodation.
