Programmes Administrative Assistant
This well known, professional and friendly Society, which serves the public and its members and Fellows, is seeking an enthusiastic and efficient administrative assistant for its Programmes Office. This position is ideally suited to a recent geography graduate, with work or volunteering experience, who is well organised and has good attention to detail.
The Programmes Office exists to further the understanding and discussion of geographical issues through live events ranging from lectures and seminars to conferences and debates. It contributes in particular to the public understanding of geography through a comprehensive programme of events in London, across England and Wales. It oversees, and in some cases directly organises, some 150 events each year, and liaises with 8 voluntary regional committees and the Younger Members’ Committee.

Salary: £18,500 and £19,665 per annum depending upon experience
This is a full time, permanent appointment, subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period of three months. The role is largely an administrative one and process-driven, supporting a very busy office that is central to the Society’s activities. The successful candidate will work closely with both the Programmes Manager and the Programmes Officer to ensure the smooth running of the Programmes Office and successful delivery of events. This post holder will be required to work on average one evening per week to support an event, and for which overtime will be paid, as well as normal working hours.

Project Officer
The Royal Geographical Society (with The Institute of British Geographers) seeks a Project Officer to lead a project on the teaching and learning of quantitative methods in geography at university. This project is funded by the British Academy. The Project Officer will work with the Head of Research and Higher Education at the RGS-IBG to audit existing provision, identify good practice, develop online resources and workshops to disseminate findings and share good practice, and create a series of online case studies to showcase the importance of quantitative methods in the workplace.

Salary: £26,500 - £28,500 (pro rata)
The appointment is a fixed term, half-time (50%) position for one year. It is expected that this post holder will also be appointed to a linked fixed term, half-time (50%) post for the same period (http://www.bris.ac.uk/jobs) [Research Assistant: Supporting quantitative methods teaching in geography]. Applicants must apply independently for both positions, but preference will be given to applicants who apply for and meet the selection criteria for both posts.
The Project Officer will be based at the RGS-IBG in London. The starting date for both positions is 2 July 2012 (subject to negotiation).

This post will be responsible for the future development and writing of the Society’s award winning online educational resources for schools. This post will report to the Society’s Manager, Schools Programme. Examples of our current online resources, which can be accessed via www.rgs.org/schools, include the following:

Contractual summary
This permanent, part time (0.5 f/t equivalent), post is based in Kensington, London, and has a probationary period of three months. The post, which is pensionable, will be appointed within the Society’s salary range £29,085 - £30,165 p.a. (pro-rata £14,543 - £15,083) commensurate with other posts across the Society. Holiday entitlement is five weeks per year plus the period when the Society is closed between Christmas and New Year and on Bank holidays. Subsidised lunches are available on site, and there is a season ticket loan scheme. The Society is an equal opportunities employer.
