Domesday Reloaded: How Britain has changed 1986-2012

Human Geographer from the University of Sheffield, and Society Fellow Professor Danny Dorling presents a programme on BBC Radio 4 on Wednesday 25 January 2012 (9pm) - Domesday Reloaded. In this he compares the United Kingdom in 1986 and 2011, and people's views about it, to look at the ways in which the country has changed over the last 25 years.
Danny picks four areas in which to explore the transformations of the UK. He visits these places and talks to the individuals about their lives and experiences of the way that their locality has changed.
One theme he explores is the disappearance of an industrial landscape since the 1980s. Looking at Sheffield to explore how this once steel town has benefitted from the expansion of higher education to become a centre of student life. And he also looks at aspects of life that have not changed in a quarter of a century, such as in the Scottish village of Buchlyvie.
