Can societies strike a balance between combating the dangers of viral outbreaks and pandemics, while maintaining the hopes of eradicating established diseases, such as malaria and HIV/AIDS, which claim millions of lives each year?

Join our panel of experts as they discuss these issues and put your questions to them.

2012: Scott centenary

Now open: With Scott to the Pole, the Society's exhibition, remembering Captain Scott's doomed expedition in its centenary year. Combining fine polar photography by the official expedition photographer with a digital gallery of modern scientific research the exhibition reflects Scott's legacy, the beginning of scientific research in Antarctica.

There are also a number of 'Be Inspired' talks and showcases to commemorate the anniversary.

The educational website, Discovering Antarctica is available as a resource to students and teachers.

Journals

Academic books and journals »

Each year, the first issues of our three main journals are freely available for anyone to view online throughout that year. In 2012, these issues include a variety of papers ranging from exploring the outdoors in the special section of Area to health issues in The Geographical Journal and student mobility in Transactions of the IBG.

The Society is also seeking a new Editor for its top-ranked journal, Transactions of the IBG.
