button  New inquiry into the national curriculum March 2008
Geography teachers and educationalists are invited to submit evidence to the House of Commons select commitee for Children, Schools and Families for their inquiry into the national curriculum.

Written submissions are invited for the inquiry on the following areas:

  • the principle of whether there should be a National Curriculum
  • how the fitness-for-purpose of the National Curriculum might be improved
  • the management of the National Curriculum and its articulation with other policies and strategies with which schools must work.

The RGS-IBG will submit its evidence by the deadline of 17 March 2008. We welcome comments from the geographical community.

Let us know your comments by emailing policy@rgs.org.

Please follow the link on the right for more information on the inquiry.

The Director of the RGS-IBG has a formal role as advisers to the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families. We champion the importance of geography and geographical knowledge and understanding in education at all school levels.

An essential element of this is securing adequate funding for schools in England and Wales, together with the curriculum and departmental opportunities for the study of geography.
