The working group strongly recommended increased subject-specific Continuing Professional Development (CPD), as opposed to the trend towards generic CPD.
Whilst there are numerous examples of excellent teaching both at the primary and secondary level, it is clear that many teachers do not have the time or opportunities throughout their career to build on their knowledge of the subject and think imaginatively about what they teach.
This can often lead to an uninspiring and disjointed experience in the classroom despite the massive potential of geography to excite and engage students.
