Public engagement

Pupils, parents, governors and teachers would all profit from a greater appreciation of contemporary geographical research and learning and the many benefits of a geographical education.

Articulating the importance of geography to the wider world is vital. The working group agreed that we need to articulate a powerful message as to what geography is and the value it has in helping to understand the world.

Members of the group:

  • Dr Gordon Conway (Chief Scientific Adviser, Department for International Development)
  • Peter Fox (Geography teacher, Nottinghamshire)
  • Dr Rita Gardner (Director, RGS-IBG) CHAIR
  • Vanessa Lawrence (Director-General, Ordnance Survey)
  • Dr David Lambert (Chief Executive, Geographical Association)
  • Andrew Linell (Headteacher, Reading School)
  • Dr Nick Middleton (Writer & TV Presenter)
  • Alasdair Thomas (Director, Birdwing)
