Geography must continue to be taught in primary schools
Government ministers are considering reducing the number of subjects taught in primary education. The RGS-IBG believes that if we are not to diminish young peoples’ understanding and curiosity about their world, we need to ensure that every primary child has access to well-planned and well-taught geography lessons.

Research Excellence Framework February 2008
As the learned society for geography, we have recently responded to the Research Excellence Framework consultation on the future of assessing and funding research in universities.
Overall, the geographical community favour the non-STEM mode of assessment led by peer review.

Our policy work
As the national champion for geography, we provide independent and politically non-partisan advice to government and other agencies on issues ranging from the national curriculum, school field trips, benchmarking of geography teaching in universities or research funding.
