bullet  Friday 21 November: Paul Rose lecture
A free evening event to open Explore 2008.
Paul Rose and the team behind BBC Two's flagship series Oceans, share their discoveries beneath the world's great oceans from the Arctic to the Tropics.

bullet  Saturday 22 November: expedition planning & logistics Morning lectures cover:

  • Project planning and organisation        
  • Marketing and PR
  • How to raise the funds
  • Health and safety in the field
  • Communication and navigation
  • Inclusive expeditions
  • Insurance and legal liability
  • Risk Assessment & safety management

Afternoon logistics workshops include mountaineering, tropical forest, polar, desert, and marine.

One-to-one advice sessions and lectures also take place.

The Explorers' bar in the evening is the time to make contacts and share experiences.

bullet  Sunday 23 November: ideas for field research & expedition skills
Lectures cover:

  • Designing a research project
  • Working with the host country
  • Survey and mapping
  • Communicating your discoveries
  • Environmental impact
  • Society Expedition & Research grants

Fieldwork & skills workshops both morning and afternoon include human, earth and biological sciences, schools and expeditions, mapping and surveying, photography and film-making.

One-to-one advice sessions and lectures also take place.
