Field projects organised in partnership with visiting researchers can not only provide these opportunities but are often a pathway to future career development. However, opportunities for individuals to undertake field research, particularly people from less developed countries, can often be limited.
The Society provides funding to both groups and individuals doing collaborative field research projects.
Profiles of some of four individuals who have benefited from our existing field programmes are shown on the right. David Mandiyanike, Jennie Mallela, Emmeline Skinner and Yara Evans have all previously received support from the Society through its Slawson’s Award programme. The Slawson Awards support geographical fieldwork by individuals registered as PhD students at a UK university, involving key development issues; including projects in geography related disciplines such as anthropology and economics.
As the ILCB project develops we will feature career profiles of those Ecuadorian, Indonesian and Ugandan individual supported by the ILCB bursaries alongside case studies of other individuals.
