| Grants
An important way in which the Society develops new knowledge and advances geographical science is by providing funding for geographical research and scientific expeditions. Grants support work in the UK and across all seven continents. Since 2005, grants totalling £500,000 have supported more than 140 field-based research projects and scientific expeditions. Additionally 170, largely undergraduate, expeditions have been supported. Research has been conducted in more than a 120 countries - from Namibia to Brazil to Greenland. |

Today there are 23 different grant programmes, reflecting the breadth of contemporary geographical research. Projects funded address topical and important issues ranging from desertification, glacier dynamics, biodiversity and conservation, to climate change, migration and urban regeneration.
