What fieldwork will I do at A Level?
You will undertake fieldwork and develop investigation skills.
Depending on your school, you may carry out fieldwork in your local area or further afield, and in a range of human or physical environments.
Whatever you do, you will develop valuable skills which you can build on throughout your life.
How can fieldwork help me prepare for university
- Understanding and knowledge of geography - seeing your text books ‘come to life’ making what you learn much more memorable
- Developing your skills, such as data collection, analysing, map work, observing, investigating, computer and technology skills, communication and mathematical skills
- Learning, communication, confidence - you take responsibility for your learning, gaining confidence and develop skills, such as leadership, teamwork and communication
- Preparing for university and career - many of the skills you will learn during fieldwork will be valuable there
How can I participate in more fieldwork opportunities?
Each summer, we hold a fully funded residential fieldwork summer school.
This is for geography students at the end of their first year of AS / Highers (or equivalent) who would not normally have such opportunities.
