Undergraduates

There are many opportunities to participate in fieldwork; within and outside of your undergraduate studies, with clubs and societies, volunteering locally or overseas during the holidays or taking a gap year between degree and employment. The Society provides funding for undergraduates through our student grants and for first year undergraduates through our fieldwork apprenticeships.

Fieldwork apprenticeships

Each year, we are awarding five bursaries to support first year university geography students to work as apprentices on overseas fieldwork during the summer. Each student will be involved with a research project, led by a lecturer at their institution.

Benefits

Former academic mentors share their comments on the scheme for academics and students:

    Apply

First year undergraduates commencing a degree in autumn 2013 can apply for the next round of fieldwork apprenticeships.  Download the guidance notes for more information and details on how to apply. The closing date is Friday 14 February 2014.
