Department & institution School of Environment, University of Gloucestershire
Description A module which nurtures and develops a student’s understanding and appreciation of their own individual stance and attitude towards key issues in a globalised world.
Level A Level 3 Human Geography module. Via the modular scheme at the University, students from other disciplines may also take this module.
Aim To encourage students to read, review and reflect on material related to the Postcolonial World and the process of globalisation. In particular, students are asked to focus on one polarised perspective (positive or negative) of a development issue through the production of a written report; students have the opportunity to present their perspective in a seminar.
Delivery A resource pack consisting of readings, CDs and videos is provided to support this module. Students have a limited number of lectures and work independently or in small groups. One of the three elements of assessment is a written report from one perspective of a development issue. Average module size is 20 students.
