Through events, programmes, exhibitions, policy consultation responses and briefings the Society aims to foster a general public more engaged with geography and more informed about our changing world and the challenges it faces.

Understanding our world

  • 21st Century Challenges - the Society's discussion series, with accompanying website of resources, that aims to improve public understanding of, and engagement with, some of the big issues likely to affect our lives and society in the coming years
  • Hidden Journeys - enabling exploration of the people and places that can be seen from the cabin of an airplane along a series of flight-paths
  • Britain from the Air - a travelling exhibition offering an exhilarating perspective of some of the UK’s most breath-taking and thought provoking landscapes and landmarks, from the well-known to the less familiar
  • Walk the World - a London 2012 Cultural Olympiad campaign to inspire the UK to discover their local built, historic and natural environment and revealing the influence of Olympic nations and their people and how they have helped to shape our environment.

Policy and public affairs

  • Geography Today - A 'hub' for geography, with links to geography and geographers in the media, and longer articles that feature the broad range and diversity of geography today
  • Geography NOW - case studies about geographers working on policy-relevant issues
  • Policy briefings - facilitating the transfer of knowledge between researchers, practitioners and policy-makers on a range of topics.
