Support for Postgraduates

The Society supports postgraduates in a wide variety of ways, especially in the field of Research and Higher Education.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact RHED@rgs.org for more information.

Postgraduate Fellowship

 Join Us
As a Postgraduate Fellow of the RGS-IBG, your membership offers discounts on courses and conferences, networking through research groups, and exchanging ideas through the postgraduate forum.  Fellowship for postgraduates is less than £30 per year with no joining fee.

 Postgraduate Forum
The Postgraduate Forum (PGF) serves to: foster communication between postgraduates; provide information about events, activities and funding; and offer support and opportunities for postgraduates to further develop their professional skills and credentials. Make contact with other postgraduates in your field through the online forums.

 Research Groups
The Society’s Research and Working Groups bring together active researchers and those with a professional interest in a particular aspect of geography and related disciplines. Some groups have postgraduate dissertation prizes and travel funding available for conferences.  Postgraduate Fellows are entitled to join any of the groups for free.

Communicating Research

'Publishing in Geography' and 'Communicating Research Beyond the Academy'
Gain valuable advice, hints and tips from case studies written by leading editors and scholars.  Topics include: publishing in journals and books, writing policy reports and for the media, and communicating research to schools, young people, policy-makers, business and the wider public.

 Annual International Conference
The RGS-IBG Annual International Conference attracts over 1,200 geographers from around the world and is usually held at the end of August each year.
Postgraduates are encouraged to submit a paper or poster to themed sessions organised by the Postgraduate Forum, the Society’s Research & Working Groups, or to open sessions.
