What can Geography Ambassadors offer your school?

The below map shows all school geography departments that have had visits from Geography Ambassadors since 2014.

Geography Ambassadors are trained to deliver lively, interactive sessions to a class-size (max 35) of school pupils at any stage of secondary school geography, although with specific focus on years 8,9, 11 and 6th form.

Geography Ambassadors are guests in schools, and sessions topics and themes are worked out between the Ambassador and yourselves to make sure the session is right for your pupils. As a teacher, you are expected to have an active disciplinary role in any session an Ambassador is delivering and Ambassadors should never be left unaccompanied in schools as they're not DBS checked as a matter of course. For more information please see our Teacher FAQs.

Ambassadors aim to demonstrate the value and relevance of the subject not only using geography school pupils are currently studying, but also by demonstrating what the subject can become at university and beyond. As a result Geography Ambassador sessions can complement, but are not limited by, the curriculum.

In addition, Ambassadors also support geography clubs and fieldwork trips, both residential and overseas, and provide sessions which are particularly focused on development issues and global perspectives, through the Society’s involvement in the Global Learning Programme.

A Storymap showing what happens over a year in the Geography Ambassador Scheme can be found here.

For our careers and progression materials for school pupils, please see our Going Places with Geography pages.

If you would like to arrange for an Ambassador to come and visit your school, please fill in the below form and/or contact us on Ambassadors@rgs.org or 020 7591 3050

Please note: Geography Ambassador visits are coordinated centrally from the Society and not individual university geography departments.
