Sustainable cities

Initially it would seem to the outsider that London has done very little to protect resources and the environment for future generations. However on closer examination it becomes clear that London has the potential to become a beacon of sustainability through the actions of local groups, charities and government organisations.

There are a large number of groups involved in protecting and cleaning up the environment, improving energy efficiency, promoting use of public transport and reducing congestion and making new developments sustainable.

This resource aims to give students an understanding of the following:

  • London's ecological footprint
  • local community action encouraging sustainability
  • Agenda 21
  • sustainable transport systems
