‘Embedding GIS in schools’ project

Funded in 2004 by the then DfES ICT in Schools Division, this project follows on from the ‘Getting started with GIS’ project by providing an evaluation of GIS software for schools undertaken for teachers by teachers and a GIS professional.

The evaluation criteria were selected following feedback from teachers about what they wanted from a GIS product, and 23 products were evaluated.

The evaluation information is available in 5 tables:

  • a summary of the products including price, pros and cons
  • relevance to the curriculum
  • functionality
  • installation
  • ease of use
