button  Young Geographer of the Year 2010

This year's competition theme is 'Sorting the wood from the trees: the future of forests'. Prizes include a ticket to the RGS - IBG's expedition and fieldwork training weekend ‘Explore’, plus book tokens and atlases.  The competition is open to young geographers throughout the UK and Europe under the age of 19 years

button  Michael Palin’s letter promoting GCSE and A Level geography:

As your pupils approach their option choices you might like to show them a letter from the Society’s President Michael Palin explaining the importance of why they should choose geography at GCSE and A Level.  Please do copy this letter for each of your pupils to pass onto their parents and also use it as part of any options events.

Ordnance Survey is working with JISC Collections for Schools and EDINA on a schools version of Digimap due for release in January 2010.  The service will comprise of two elements, a data streaming service for use with schools GIS and a web interface to provide just view and print facilities. Details of the service, which is intended to unlock access to Ordnance Survey data (and therefore stimulate the use of GIS) for all types of schools regardless of funding status, will be released in a few weeks.  To receive further information please send your contact details to Ken.Lacey@ordnancesurvey.co.uk.
