Changing climates

This section looks at what the climate might be like in different locations in 2050, and how places and people might adapt because of these climate changes.

What is the climate like in 2050 and how have people adapted?

IPCC report of 2001 estimates for 2100:

  • Global surface temperature rise of 1.4C to .8 degrees C
  • Global mean sea level rise between 20cm to 88cm

Mitigation involves taking actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to enhance sinks aimed at reducing the extent of global warming. This is in distinction to adaptation to global warming which involves taking action to minimize the effects of global warming.
