Adapting to an urban futureIn 2009 the 50/50 point was passed and, for the first time in history, more people live in urban than rural areas. This trend is predicted to continue during the twenty first century and it is the rapid pace of this trend which presents challenges for the world’s cities.

With a third of humanity on the move there are inevitably impacts on cities and the rural areas which are left behind. This 21CC considers the causes and consequences of this global urbanisation and looks to the future.
