Sustainability and the conference

Building on past initiatives, the Society remains committed to reducing resources used in the conference, by sourcing supplies and food locally, using recycled and recyclable materials, and reducing, reusing and recycling conference materials to every extent possible.

Specifically, we will have recycle bins for glass, aluminium, paper, card, as well as general waste bins. We encourage all delegates to sort the materials they discard.

One recyclable water bottle will be available per person which can be re-filled using the water coolers provided. Food containers used will be made from recycled material.

Conference lanyards, programme books and promotional material can be kept, or placed in the bins provided to be reused.

Given the most significant carbon emissions for international conferences come from the travel of delegates, we encourage all participants, and particularly those who have choices in how to travel to the conference, to consider this factor when making travel arrangements.

When the conference takes place in London, we welcome calls for innovative sessions that allow colleagues to participate in the conference using distance technologies. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are planning to do this.
