Financial support for conference attendance
Certificates of attendance

Everyone who is listed on the conference programme and who wishes to attend the conference needs to register and pay in full before attending the conference.

The delegate registration fee includes access to conference sessions, lunch and all-day refreshments, and many of the evening wine receptions. The fee does not include accommodation, the conference dinner (which is optional) or any pre-conference workshops/symposia.

Please also see the cancellation policy at the bottom of this page.

How to register

  • Online registration is now closed.
  • A manual booking form is still available for anyone still to register for the conference - please return it to the organisers before arrival if possible, as this will speed up the registration process when you arrive.
  • Existing Fellows/members may wish to pay their registration fee and membership renewal at the same time in order to receive a single invoice/receipt for professional expenses.  If this is the case, please send a completed registration form to AC2014@rgs.org, marking the box for "Please include my membership renewal fees".
  • One day bookings: If you are only booking for one day, you must specify which day you are choosing.
  • Research Group guests: Delegates who have been invited to attend as Research Group Guests will be contacted by the conference organisers to complete their registration.

Fees for workshops

Postgraduate Forum Annual Conference Training Symposium (PGF-ACTS)

The symposium is a half-day networking and training event on the day before the conference (Tuesday 26 August 2014) led by established geographers and other professionals and hosted by the Society's Postgraduate Forum.  Attendance is limited to conference delegates.

The £20 fee includes lunch, workshop costs and an evening drinks reception.  Find out more.

Participatory Methods training day

The Participatory Geographies Research Group is organising a training day to offer both theoretical and practical advice on participatory methods. Anyone with an interest in participatory and activist research is welcome to attend.  This event has now sold out.

Generating Research Impact: Ethics, Politics and Practices

This event will bring together academics, postgraduates and other interested fellows from across Human Geography to facilitate a critical focus and debate on the nature and implications of research impact, from research group perspectives across the discipline, including thinking more broadly and critically about what research impact means to us, and how it affects our work.

The event is free to students (current, registered graduate or doctoral studies), and £16 for all others.  If you are attending AC2014, you can choose to add this workshop to your registration at the time of booking.  If you are not attending AC2014, a different booking process applies.

Find out more about this event including advice on how to register.

Fees for the conference reception and dinner

The optional conference reception and dinner (from 7.45 to 10pm on Thursday 28 August 2014) has a small additional charge of £20.00 per person, to include a two-course buffet-style dinner and drinks (wine/juice).  A cash bar is also available.

The conference reception and dinner has now sold out.  Tickets may be available to purchase via the registration desk at the conference (in case of returns).

Renew your membership

Delegates who are Fellows or members of the Society who wish to pay for their membership renewal at the same time as registration are encouraged to contact AC2014@rgs.org for assistance.  The Society can issue both charges on a single invoice/receipt, suitable for professional expenses claims.

It is not currently possible to pay for membership renewal and registration fees in a single transaction via the online portal.

Join the Society

If you apply for Fellowship at the same time as registering for AC2014, the Society will waive the Fellowship joining fee (a one-off payment of £30) normally paid in addition to the first year’s subscription. In addition to reduced registration fees for conference, Fellows and members enjoy a wide range of benefits, including access to the Society's Research Groups, academic journals, online lectures, the Society's Collections, and more.

The one-off £30 joining fee is automatically waived for Postgraduate Fellowship, leaving just the first year’s subscription to pay.

Please contact membership@rgs.org for more information and to request joining forms, which you should send with your completed conference registration form.

Please note: you will not be able to book online at the Members' rate until your membership application is complete, but the conference organisers can manually process your conference registration at the Members' rate once the membership application process has been started.  Please use the manual booking form to take advantage of the lower rate.

Bookings for this event are non-refundable unless a medical certificate or similar evidence can be produced.

If you do cancel your booking by producing a medical certificate or similar evidence, cancellations made up to eight weeks in advance will incur a £30 administration fee, and cancellations made thereafter will incur a £60 fee. We cannot give any refunds for cancellations made less than seven days before the event, during, or after the event.
