During August and September the RGS-IBG is hosting an exhibition celebrating the past 50 years of the BGRG and BSG, and the conference is part of those celebrations.

BSG has established a task force to identify the top geomorphological challenges that will face us over the next 50 years demonstrating how geomorphology will help society face a future given the current and projected climate, natural resource and economic uncertainties.

Programme

Paper sessions will run from Tuesday morning to Thursday lunch time. Sessions will be focused on five 50th anniversary challenges, identified at recent BSG meetings:

  • simulation and uncertainty;
  • providing the baseline records of environmental change;
  • processes at the surface of the Earth;
  • connectivity in earth surface systems;
  • technological advances.

Leading geomorphologists have been invited from around the world to present a range of keynote or benchmark papers. Other events at the 50th Anniversary Meeting will include the Frost, Linton, Warwick and Wiley lectures. The BSG annual awards ceremony and dinner will be held on the Wednesday evening.
