Imaging Everest - 1921-1953

A fascinating exhibition, originally created by the Society with the British Council Nepal to mark the 50th anniversary of the Hillary and Tenzing's successful Everest ascent.

Capturing nine expeditions over a 30 year period in black and white and colour, the exhibition includes:

  • the beautiful secluded regions surrounding the Himalayas
  • Sherpa contribution to expeditions
  • climbers’ interactions with local people, upon which the success of expeditions relies so heavily

The Society has painstakingly selected 40 photographs of the 20,000 taken on these trips. The result conveys the sheer determination and spirit of all those involved in these remarkable endeavours.
