Visions of the World

New lands and cultures have always propelled travellers, explorers and scientists to the far corners of this earth. Not until relatively recent times has this fascination coupled with photography to produce such lasting and captivating insights.

The Society’s exceptional Picture Library houses up to half a million images with some dating back to 1860.

This exhibition provides a unique view of worldwide people, places and environments, including:

  • early landscapes of Egypt
  • portraits of Brazilian warriors
  • majestic polar vistas
  • contemporary images of parched deserts
  • iconic images of Hillary and Tenzing drinking tea after the ascent of Everest

A combination of colour and black and white limited edition prints. All prints come framed and captioned. Text panels provide background information and commentary
