A visual exploration of the changes in Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, over 100 years. Seen through the eyes of two men:
- Leonard Woolf, member of the Bloomsbury group, the husband of the celebrated writer Virginia Woolf
- Sir Christopher Ondaatje, writer, philanthropist and patron of the Society.
The exhibition presents a perspective based on observations made by Leonard Woolf whilst he lived there from 1904–1911.
It includes commentary by Sir Christopher who retraced Woolf’s journey recently.
“My aim was to try to understand what these places were like in Woolf’s time", said Sir Christopher. "what had happened to them since then and what the colonial period means to us now.”
