Trans-national movement of waste: local social responsibility and global sustainability

The one day confernce aimed to:
- discuss the issues surrounding Defra’s forthcoming Waste Strategy review.
- examine the UK’s responsibility to the transfrontier movement of waste, in particular local responsibility versus global need and sustainability
- bring together ideas from all stakeholders on how to efficiently monitor and manage the trans-national movement of waste from the UK perspective
- determine how to achieve best practice, both for monitoring agencies and for businesses involved with waste management
The speakers epresented the business (e.g. waste management companies), policy (e.g. Environment Agency and Defra) and research (NGO’s and University researchers).
The conference was organised by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) as part of the Society’s Environment and Society Forum series.
