Discovering Bhutan
Bhutan’s cautious balanced approach to development and modernisation ensures that its tourism industry is run sustainably. Tourism must not only be economically viable, but also sensitive to the local culture and environment.
Income generated from tourism tax goes toward the Tourism Development Fund and is used for:
- Environmental protection work
- Setting up foundations to ensure that the country’s natural resources are being used efficiently
- Actively protecting its rich culture and profound Buddhist traditions
- Contributions towards education and health
No restrictions are imposed on the number of tourists to Bhutan. However, the policy of low volume, high quality tourists ensures that Bhutanese tradition and culture can be preserved and numbered without exception.
Travellers can only reach Bhutan through all-inclusive packages with tariffs set by the Bhutanese government. All tours are booked through recognised Bhutanese tour operators and the entire trip’s arrangements are provided for by the same agent, with visas processed by the tour operator.
