The heart of darkness

Robert Chalmers

The Congo, formally the Zaire River, is the world's largest after the Amazon. Its course runs for 2,920 miles, cutting through the planet's second largest area of primary rainforests. Robert Chalmers has recently undertaken an incident-filled river journey into this troubled area of deepest Africa.

An evening with the President

  • Thursday 23 February 2012 from 7pm to 9pm
  • Norwich

A special evening for Fellows and Members. There will be a brief update on the Society followed by a talk from Michael Palin and plenty of time to chat over wine and nibbles afterwards.

Venue: The Hostry, Norwich Cathedral, Norwich NR1 4EH. This event is open to all our Fellows and Members in the East Anglia region (and one guest).

Tickets: cost £5 each with all proceeds going towards the Society’s charitable activities.

Erosion on the Norfolk coast

Tea and coffee production in Ethiopia

There is a long history of coffee and tea production in Ethiopia, where coffee is still grown in the forests and commercial tea plantations are found in the highlands of Kaffa in the south west of the country.

Skye to Smithfield

Vyv Wood-Gee

On a solo ride lasting eight weeks, Vyv followed the traditional drovers' route from the Outer Hebrides to London via Norfolk without back-up. She endured torrential rain in the Highlands, traversed bogs, forded rivers and had to chase after her own ponies to complete the 900 mile ride.
