Ice-age megafloods in the Altai mountains of Siberia

Professor Paul Carling

At the end of the last ice-age, massive glacierdammed lakes formed.When they drained they  caused exceptional ‘megafloods’which shaped distinctive Siberian landscapes. Paul Carling will interpret these changes.

Melting ice – rising sea: Antarctic climate change and the environment

The melting of land ice in both Antarctica and Greenland is causing ever-increasing rises to global sea levels. Colin Summerhayes describes the vital importance of predicting and measuring these changes accurately. Joint lecture with the University of Portsmouth.

In the footsteps of Mallory and Irvine

Mountaineering biologist Roger Smith tells the story of when he retraced the route taken by those early pioneers to Everest.Whilst much has changed, the extreme challenges they faced remain.
