Chartered Geographer Teacher application accelerator

Course content

If you are eligible for Chartered Geographer Teacher (eligibility criteria) we have produced an online accelerator which you can fit around your teaching commitments. There are four videos to focus your efforts in preparing your application portfolio. Please be advised that it is expected that you submit an application after watching the videos and completing the course work. 

Email cgeog@rgs.org to access the videos to guide you through the process of applying for Chartered Geographer Teacher. The sessions are as follows:

Hosts

Guiding you through the sessions are Chartered Geographer assessors Dr Emma Rawlings Smith and Kate Otto. 

Emma Rawlings Smith is Departmental Lecturer in Geography Education at the Department of Education, University of Oxford where she teaches on the PGCE Geography and MLT programmes. Prior to her current role, Emma held roles as a university-based teacher educator (University of Leicester and Bangor University) and Head of Geography in schools in the UK and abroad. Her research interests include geography education, student transitions, place pedagogy and the professional learning of teacher educators. Emma sits on the Council of the Society as Honorary Secretary (Education), is a Chartered Geographer (and assessor thereof) and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is a member of the Geography Education Research Collective (GEReCo), Geographical Association’s Teacher Education Phase Committee and Teaching Geography Editorial Board.

Kate Otto has been a CGeog since 2016, the same year she received the Society's Ordnance Survey Award for Excellence in Geographical Teaching at Secondary Level. She has been a Chartered Geographer assessor for the last three years. Kate has been a geography teacher since 2009, and has taught at a variety of 11-18 institutions, with her current role as a teacher of A Level geography at Barton Peveril College. Additionally, Kate is an examiner for the AQA exam board, author, PGCE subject mentor and contributor to the Tutor2u A Level geography programme.
