Research Groups
The Society has over 30 Research and Working Groups. These bring together researchers and those with a professional interest in a particular aspect of geography and related disciplines.
While some Research Groups focus on particular themes or methodologies, several others advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion within geography.
What do Research Groups do?
The primary remit of Research Groups is to support and promote academic research and teaching in their area of geography, but their work also extends into education, public policy and research, government and enterprise.
The groups are supported by committees made up of elected positions that help to facilitate their activities.
Research Groups play a key role in the Society’s Annual International Conference, sponsoring sessions, organising socials and supporting attendance for individuals who might otherwise be unable to attend.
Among their other activities, the groups create resources, support mentoring and career development, and organise a variety events.
They also celebrate the achievements of students through undergraduate dissertation prizes, and offer awards, prizes and funding to researchers working in their area of the discipline.

Getting involved
Research and Working Group membership is open to both Society members and non-members.
Joining a group will provide access to networks of colleagues with similar research interests, offer opportunities for professional development, and allow you to stay updated on upcoming activities.

Research Group committees: how to join and resources
Those wishing to further support the work of Research Groups also may consider joining a Research Group committee.
Committee vacancies are usually advertised ahead of the annual general meetings (AGMs) in late August to early September each year.
We also have a range of resources for those currently serving on Research and Working Group committees.
