Society celebrates 2019 A Level results

  • 2019

A Level results were published this morning, Thursday 15 August 2019, by the Joint Council for Qualifications and show an increase in the number of students sitting the examinations in geography.

34,960 students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland sat A Level geography this year – an increase of 4.2% on 2018, despite a decrease in the overall number of 18 year olds.

Commenting, the Society’s Head of Education and Outdoor Learning, Steve Brace, said:

“At a time when Britain is recasting its geo-political relationships with the EU and the wider world, and the impacts of climate change can no longer be ignored, it is critical that we understand more about the world’s people, places and environments. This is exactly what studying geography can provide.

"The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) congratulates all the students receiving their A Level geography results today – they are a testament to the students’ hard work and the support they received from their geography teachers.

"A Level geography also helps young people secure places at some of the most prestigious universities and go on to experience above average rates of employment and earnings, so congratulations to all those who will be starting undergraduate geography courses in the autumn.”
