A session focused on the evaluative demands posed by geography assessment objectives and strategies for developing students' evaluative capabilities. Please note that this event is for teachers.
Evaluation is the greatest assessment challenge for many geography students - especially those not taking other subjects that require them to develop evaluative essay-writing skills. There is more to doing well in exams than revision: evaluative skills develop over time through active reading and critical thinking, even at Key Stage Three.
In particular, this session focuses on:
Ways of helping students of all ages develop higher-order thinking skills in geography.
Strategies for teaching and learning that will help students to develop the skills needed to make 'substantiated' judgements in geography.
Using geographic concepts, theories and ideas to build better arguments.
This session is a repeat of our sessions run in 2019 and 2020, and will be presented by Dr Simon Oakes, author of Hodder’s best-selling Aiming for an A in Geography.
Delegates will be sent details of how to access the event approximately a week before the event. If this email does not reach you, please contact us (preferably before the day of the event). This event will be run online via Microsoft Teams.
