'The Coral Reef Problem' - how little corals build enormous reef structures - has fascinated marine scientists for almost two hundred years. Tom Spencer, who has  studied corals and mangroves throughout the reef seas, takes us on a journey from the voyage of The Beagle to modern insights into reef growth and loss, and discusses  what the warm world future may hold for these remarkable ecosystems.

About the speaker

Tom Spencer is Emeritus Professor of Coastal Dynamics at the University of Cambridge. He has studied corals and mangroves throughout the reef seas. He is currently working on an international project on coral atoll 'habitability' in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
