About the speaker
Charlie Newman, a Dorset pub landlord and cider-maker, is known for his extensive knowledge and hands-on approach to paleontology. He has earned recognition for his contributions, including having a species named after him—Durlstotherium newmani, an ancient mammal discovered near Swanage. Beyond fossils, he curates a small museum at the Square and Compass pub, showcasing local treasures.
A passionate steward of history and nature, Charlie’s expeditions along the coast often uncover rare specimens, significantly contributing to scientific knowledge and the preservation of local heritage.
