The Avonmouth Severnside Enterprise Area (ASEA) Ecology Mitigation and Flood Defence Project is delivering a new flood defence scheme for Avonmouth Severnside, along a 17 kilometre stretch of coastline to protect local communities and reduce flood risk to at least 2,500 homes and businesses, now and in the future.

The project also includes creating new habitats for important wildlife specific in the area and to help enhance and grow the Avonmouth Severnside Enterprise Area to reach its economic potential.

As part of the project a new community mural has been painted on one section of new flood defence wall in a local nature reserve.

The visit will start at Kings Weston House with an introduction to the project summarising the geographic context of the project next to the Severn Estuary, spanning the urbanised area of Avonmouth up to more rural South Gloucestershire near the first Severn crossing. Hear insights on how the project was developed, including funding secured, over several years before construction started in 2020. The visit will end at Lamplighter’s Marsh; a local nature reserve with a Friends group who the project team have worked with to enhance the new flood defence by painting a community mural on an environmental theme.
