Our Geography Ambassadors are a great way to introduce pupils to the many benefits of studying geography, and where it can lead them in the future. By booking a free Geography Ambassador visit, schools can help to encourage their pupils to choose geography.
We have over 1,000 registered undergraduate and professional Geography Ambassadors visiting schools across the country, reaching around 30,000 pupils each year. Their sessions cover a range of topics from options at GCSE and A Level and studying geography at university, to GIS activities and careers information.
Our Ambassadors consistently receive positive feedback and are often credited with helping to raise the number of pupils choosing to study geography at A Level. One teacher said: “The passion with which the Ambassador spoke and the knowledge of geography she shared with students could only have widened the students’ appreciation of the breadth of geography as a discipline and the possibilities within the discipline. Many students will opt to study geography at both GCSE and A Level as a result of this timely intervention.”
Feedback from other recent visits has included comments on our Ambassadors’ enthusiasm and knowledge of the subject, as well as their ability to relate geography to everyday life and the careers that can be accessed from studying the subject at A Level and beyond.
Following on from the success of the scheme in England, we have recently launched the Geography Ambassadors programme in Scotland, with the support of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and the Scottish Association of Geography Teachers.
