Welcome to London Climate Action Week, an annual event bringing together world leading climate professionals and communities. Throughout the week, London’s cultural institutions, policymakers, professionals, communities, faith leaders, academics and researchers will explore new solutions for getting to an equitable net zero carbon world. To mark the occasion, we’ve collated a list of five lectures and talks that you must watch this week:
1. What fate for Antarctica?
This Monday night lecture by Dr Tamsin Edwards explores the distant and unfamiliar places of Antarctica. We hear of giant icebergs breaking away, and glaciers crumbling - but how much do we know about the fate of these great ice sheets? (Members only.)
2. Geographical lates: climate talks
Hear from a range of experts as they discuss evolving climate science, the current policy stance, what the COP25 climate talks hope to achieve, and what you can do. From the science of changes to the climate system, to influencing local authorities, this talk has something for everyone.
3. Climate change challenges: lessons from Bangladesh
Last London Climate Action Week expert panelists from the UK and Bangladesh shared their insights into how Bangladesh was becoming more climate resilient, and the lessons we can learn from expertise in the country. Panelists included Professor Sir David King, Her Excellency , Dr Saleemul Huq and Saber Hossain Choudhury.
4. What is happening to our weather?
In this Monday night lecture, Dr Peter Stott speaks about devastating hurricanes, forest fires and flash floods. Vulnerable communities across the world have succumbed to all of these and more in recent months. Increasingly they are asking the question: ‘Is this linked to climate change?’. (Members only.)
5. Climate change and you.
It is widely agreed that responding to climate change involves mitigating the consequences by reducing the levels of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, and simultaneously adapting to the changes in our climate. Join our panel during this London Climate Action Week on Wednesday 18 November to discuss a world that’s three degrees warmer. Book now.
