Society medal recipient Professor Mark Birkin is leading a key workstream of The Rapid Assistance in Modelling the Pandemic (RAMP) initiative.
Convened by the Royal Society, RAMP brings together modelling expertise from a range of disciplines and aims to help model the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and guide the UK government’s response. Professor Birkin’s expertise will help to connect epidemic models to urban and transport analytics.
Professor Birkin is the Alan Turing Institute’s Programme Director for Urban Analytics, Professor of Spatial Analysis and Policy at the University of Leeds and Director of the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics. He was the recipient of the Society’s prestigious Murchison Award in 2019 for pioneering work on the development and application of urban analytics.
