The Society's Geography and Core Maths Initiative (managed by MEI and funded by DfE) focuses on building support for the circa 80% of young geographers who currently do not study maths beyond the age of 16, and raising awareness of how Core Maths can support geography students during their A Levels and the transition to undergraduate studies.
During 2020 we have produced a range of useful information and resources from this important work, including a briefing report, a podcast and a CPD programme for teachers. If you were not able to participate during the year, you can still use the resources and work through the activities on our website.
We are interested in hearing the experiences of teachers who have been using the ideas and resources in class, as well as from undergraduate geography students to understand more about how mathematical skills help in their geography studies. Please email us to share your feedback, or post them on Twitter, tagging us at @RGS_IBGschools using #geomaths.
And if you are a geography teacher who is keen to consider teaching Core Maths and/or looking to encourage your school to offer Core Maths for the first time, please get in touch, as there may be ways we can help.
