The Department for Education (DfE) announced today that it will be supporting the Society to run a Geography Teacher Training Scholarship programme for geographers starting their teacher training in the autumn of 2017.
These prestigious scholarships will provide outstanding trainees with significant financial and professional support, including £27,500 tax-free funding, additional continuing professional development opportunities, a residential fieldwork course, teaching and learning materials, Fellowship of the Society, networking events and other support to complement their training programme.
Dr Rita Gardner CBE, Director of the Society, said: “With the welcome rise in the number of pupils studying GCSE and A Level geography, there is now an even greater need to recruit the next generation of geography teachers. The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) is delighted to be working with the Department for Education to launch the new Geography Teacher Training Scholarship programme, which will help to attract the best candidates into teaching.”
Applications for the Society’s Scholarship programme will open later in the autumn. Read the full eligibility criteria here and to receive updates and further information please email your contact details to firstname.lastname@example.org.
