Today is GIS Day, an annual celebration of geographic information technology and all that it enables. Chartered Geographers and Fellows of the Society are marking the day with events and celebrations, highlighting applications of the technology and the impact it can have on solving problems and enabling good decision-making.
The Society is collaborating with the Association for Geographic Information (AGI) on a panel discussion that will explore how the continuing professional development of geospatial professionals is necessary for a prosperous and sustainable future. Panelists include Chartered Geographers Andy Murdock, Angela Baker, Nina MacVinish, and James Cutler FRGS will chair the event. The panel discussion is part of the AGI’s annual GeoCom event, taking place online from 17 to 19 November.
James Kendall, Professional Officer: Chartered Geographer at the Society and Eleza Kollannur CGeog (GIS) are contributing to an event discussing routes for professional development and recognition in GIS.
Sylwia Nickel CGeog (GIS) is part of Arup UK’s virtual GIS Day event showcasing the different ways they use GIS and visualisation in their work as a multi-disciplinary consultancy, in disciplines such as ecology, water and railways.
Esri UK, supporter of our Geography Ambassadors programme and partner in delivering GIS and data skills training to teachers, are celebrating GIS Day with an event showcasing individuals and organisations who are using GIS technology to save lives. They have also published ideas for anyone interested in using Esri platforms and tools to make their virtual GIS day a success.
