Shackleton centenary: Young Geographers of the Year announced after exploring why Antarctica matters today

The winners of ‘Young Geographer of the Year 2015’ were announced today at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG). To celebrate the centenary of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance Expedition, pupils nationwide were asked to respond to the question ‘Why does Antarctica matter?’

Following his return from the British Antarctic (Nimrod) Expedition of 1907-1909 Sir Ernest Shackleton lectured at many venues across the UK, including at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester on Friday 5 November 1909.
