Throughout 2023, we will be delivering a range of events and resources to support students to successfully apply to study geography at university, drawing on the wealth of expertise in the Society’s academic networks.
Our free online events are designed to support students, teachers, and parents through the application process and making the best choices for individual students. They will also signpost relevant resources and opportunities to hear from university representatives and students about their experiences studying geography. Booking is now open to register to attend each of the events below.
Supporting geography candidates with university applications, Wednesday 25 January, 5.00pm-6.30pm, online
This event is free to attend and aimed at geography teachers wanting to find out more about supporting their students through the university application process. It will cover helping with UCAS statements, the timelines involved, and how to ensure students make the right choice of both university and course for them. Students and parents are also welcome to attend this event.
Choosing the right university and geography course, Wednesday 29 March, 3.30pm-4.30pm, online
This free event will go through what to think about when researching universities and deciding which to apply to, as well as tips on how to assess whether a geography course will be the right fit for you. This event is aimed at A Level students, although teachers and parents are also welcome. The latter part of the event will focus on teachers and will provide tips on how they can support students in choosing the right university and geography course for them.
Making the most of university open days, Wednesday 24 May, 3.30pm-4.30pm, online
Join us at this free event to hear about how to make the most of visits to universities, what to research before you go, and the best questions to ask while you are there. This event is aimed at A Level students but parents and teachers are also welcome to attend.
These online events will be supplemented by a range of resources and online support, both through the Society and the universities we are working with. Be sure to follow us on Twitter (@RGS_IBGschools and @RGS_IBG), Instagram (@rgs_ibg), and Facebook (@RGS.IBG) to stay up to date with our wider programme of support for choosing geography at university.
