Magic Tree by Yevhen Samuchenko
The image on this year’s membership card features a photograph taken by Yevhen Samuchenko, Magic Tree.
Samuchenko’s work featured in the 2021 Earth Photo exhibition, which encouraged discussion about our planet, its inhabitants and our treatment of both through the themes of People, Place, Nature, Changing Forests and A Climate of Change.
Director of the Society, Professor Joe Smith, said of Samuchenko’s work, “His image offers pleasing colour and pattern, but also demands a second look. What is the resolution? Microscope or satellite? In fact, it’s an aerial shot of a Ukrainian park that contains more than 2,000 types of tree. In addition to being a pleasure to look at, it reminds me to keep surprising myself at the ever-refreshing wonders of nature.”
Fellows and members will receive their new membership card over the course of the year when they renew their membership.
